ORAL SURGERYWhat is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMS)?
An oral and maxillofacial surgeon is a specialist who has completed intensive additional training in surgical techniques and anesthesia after completing dental school. The oral surgery residency focuses on expanding the knowledge of the facial structures and developing expertise in performing surgical procedures through hands-on experience.
Why choose an Oral Surgeon?Oral and maxillofacial surgeons perform procedures including wisdom tooth extraction, dental implant placement, bone grafting and orthognathic surgery on a routine basis, so they are well-equipped to provide these treatments. A patient may also see an oral surgeon for treatment of conditions related to jaw problems, such as temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders or sleep apnea, as well as to restore the damage that has occurred due to facial trauma.
